BMW Sales History

BMW has continued to grow in India’s luxury car market, with SUVs playing a major role in its recent success. In 2025, BMW Group India recorded a record 18,001 car sales, including 17,271 BMW cars, while EV sales reached 3,753 units. The momentum continued in 2026, with 9,075 BMW Group cars sold in the first half of the year, up 17%. SUVs accounted for 65% of H1 sales, showing how strongly Indian buyers are leaning towards BMW’s X models.

BMW Manufacturing in India

BMW Group’s main manufacturing facility in India is located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, and began operations on 29 March 2007. The plant currently locally produces 10 BMW models, including the 2 Series Gran Coupé, 3 Series Long Wheelbase, 5 Series Long Wheelbase, X1, X3, X5, X7, M340i and X1 Long Wheelbase All Electric. It has the capacity to produce up to 17,500 vehicles in a single shift, with localisation reaching up to 50%.
