BYD Sales History
BYD is still a relatively small player in India’s passenger car market, but its sales have been moving up. The company sold around 5,400 electric cars in 2025, recording about 88% year-on-year growth. The Atto 3, Seal, eMAX 7 and Sealion 7 have helped BYD build a presence in India’s premium EV space. In 2026, the company is targeting further growth and is also preparing to introduce its first plug-in hybrid model, the Seal U.
BYD Cars by Segment
Electric SUVs: The BYD Atto 3 is the brand’s more accessible electric SUV, while the Sealion 7 sits higher in the range with stronger performance and a larger battery. The Atto 3 offers up to 521 km of ARAI-certified range in its higher variants.
Electric Sedan: The BYD Seal is the brand’s electric sedan in India. It combines a sporty design with a spacious cabin and Blade Battery technology. Depending on the variant, it uses 61.44kWh or 82.56kWh battery packs.
Electric MPV: The BYD eMAX 7 is a six- or seven-seat electric MPV aimed at families. It is available with 55.4kWh and 71.8kWh battery options and offers a claimed range of up to 530 km.
Hybrid Cars: BYD currently does not sell a hybrid passenger car in India. However, the company has announced plans to launch the Seal U, its first plug-in hybrid model for India, later in 2026. It is expected to use BYD’s DM-i technology and offer a claimed combined driving range of more than 1,200 km.

BYD’s India lineup starts at around ₹24.99 lakh ex-showroom for the Atto 3. The eMAX 7 starts at around ₹26.90 lakh, while the Seal and Sealion 7 sit higher in the premium EV segment. The Sealion 7 crossed 2,000 sales in India before its 2026 price revision. Prices can change with variants and periodic updates.

BYD Manufacturing in India
Unlike several established carmakers in India, BYD currently does not manufacture its passenger cars locally. Its India passenger vehicle lineup is brought in as completely built units.
