Volkswagen has maintained a steady presence in India’s premium mass-market car segment, with the Virtus and Taigun doing most of the work in recent years. In 2025, the wider Škoda Volkswagen India group recorded 1.17 lakh domestic sales, its highest-ever annual figure, while Volkswagen’s Virtus and Taigun remained its key models. In 2026, the new Taigun has continued to be an important volume driver, selling 1,543 units in April and 1,281 units in May.

Sedans: The Volkswagen Virtus is the brand’s only sedan in the current India range. It combines a spacious cabin with 1.0-liter and 1.5-liter TSI petrol engines, manual and automatic gearbox options, and a strong focus on safety and driving feel.

SUVs: The Volkswagen Taigun is the brand’s main SUV in the sub-₹40 lakh range. The 2026 update added several design, technology, and comfort changes, along with an 8-speed automatic option for the 1.0-liter TSI engine.

Hatchbacks: Volkswagen does not currently offer a regular hatchback under ₹40 lakh in its India lineup. The Golf GTI is available in India, but its current price is above the requested ₹40 lakh limit.

Volkswagen’s main vehicle manufacturing facility in India is located at Chakan, Pune. The plant has a production capacity of up to 2 lakh vehicles annually and carries out the complete manufacturing process under one roof. The Taigun and Virtus are among the Volkswagen models produced at the facility for the Indian market.
